You can call me Robin, welcome to my personal website. I initially developed this website to deliver my campaign for Lethbridge City Council in the 2021 Municipal Election. While that campaign was unsuccessful insofar as I was unelected, I still found the experience to be incredibly valuable and I am grateful for it. Now, four years later, with the voting period for the 2025 Municipal Election beginning today, my name will not be listed on the ballot.
I recognize that my campaign in 2021 opened a public dialogue with which I wish to continue. Since the last Municipal Election I have taken on other roles within the community, and so I’ve redeveloped this website with a blog so that I may more easily share and invite discussion about relevant ideas, experiences, and perspectives.
Which roles? First, in July of 2024 I applied for and was appointed to the Community Wellbeing Advisory Board (CWAB) as an Indigenous Community Representative by Lethbridge City Council for a two year term, with our first meeting in September of 2024. From the City’s website, “The CWAB acts as both the Community Advisory Board (CAB), providing recommendations on funding allocations according to the Federal Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy (RH), and an Advisory Board aligned with Provincial Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), offering further funding allocation guidance. Additionally, the CWAB provides advice on matters related to community wellbeing.”
My first year on the CWAB has involved much listening and learning, as this type of role is new to me. I’ve learned much about the organizations supporting our city’s vulnerable populations as well as the challenges faced, helped by attending the Integrated Coordinated Access (ICA) Service Fair last fall, the Immigrant Mental Health Symposium in January, the Métis Ethics Conference and the Indigenous Centre for Cumulative Effects (ICCE) National Conference in May, and the Indigenous Wellness Conference a few weeks ago, as well as a number of events held at the Blackfoot Resource Hub and by the Southern Alberta Community Living Association (SACLA) at the Lethbridge Senior Citizen’s Organization. I hope to provide more informed input over my second year on the Board, and to share what I can about it here.
The second role I have taken on officially began this year in May of 2025 when I was acclaimed to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Foothills Métis District Council alongside three other candidates. While we have only had a handful of meetings and events since, I have been an active Citzen of the Metis Nation within Alberta since receiving my updated Citizenship ID in February of 2021.
Thank you for taking the time to read what I’ve shared here and I look forward to sharing more of my ideas and experiences living in and serving our Southern Alberta community.
